Our Contribution Policy is simple: Voluntary contributions are gratefully accepted as long as the OpenMRS community and all downstream users are allowed to use those contributions for our public benefit mission.

The remainder of this document focuses on contributions of intellectual property, although we encourage you to make in-kind and financial contributions to OpenMRS as wellThere are many kinds of contributions we make for this cause:  

• Tangible contributions like source code or documentation you might write.
• Contributions of time to communicate, work with each other, and coordinate our work with each other
• Intellectual contributions like ideas, and previous things that you might have invented for other purposes

The details around intellectual contributions in particular are often tricky to understand and more importantly relate to others on.  So, if you are particular about how you share this "intellectual property" with our community, please read our guidance below.
