Description

The Evaluation Lead is an individual who oversees and operationalizes the collection of evidence and the design and support of evaluation studies of OpenMRS. This person has the requisite leadership skills to bring together individuals and organizations to create this key evidence base. They take a lead role in the assessment of how well OpenMRS meets the needs of the users and organizations that rely on it, and in developing study protocols and processes to measure routine performance, clinical and programmatic impact in the field, and costs. This includes a core focus on the application/UI and user support layer of OpenMRS and ensuring that it receives appropriate priority in the roadmap. 

Responsibilities

  • Collecting and distributing evidence on the clinical and programmatic impact of OpenMRS

  • Developing strategies to support evaluation and evidence generation by OpenMRS implementors and users

  • Promoting the development of tools in OpenMRS to monitor systems uptime, performance, use and data quality

  • Help/lead development of a comprehensive strategy for use of data from OpenMRS for viewing, reporting and analysis.

  • Leading instrumentation of OpenMRS to facilitate both informatics research and broader clinical research

  • Identifying weaknesses in OpenMRS and ensuring that addressing these receives priority in the road map

  • Encouraging and assisting presentation and publishing on evaluation studies of OpenMRS in international forums

  • Working with the broader eHealth and mHealth community to bring best practices in evaluation to projects using OpenMRS and other information systems

  • Working with Partnership lead to improve academic collaboration

  • Participate in OpenMRS management calls and face-to-face meetings

  • Establish regular and ad hoc reporting to OpenMRS President / CEO and OpenMRS leadership committee

  • Actively involved in fundraising and financial management

2013 Goals

  • Carry out a survey of OpenMRS implementations to assess their experience with and needs for evaluation studies

  • Develop a guide to literature on eHealth systems that have shown clinical and programmatic impact in resource poor environments and how that evidence can be translated into better support for healthcare

  • Organize a one day(?) meeting on eHealth evaluation and OpenMRS likely around the annual symposium

  • Identify 2 or more organizations that are committed to carrying out evaluation studies and provide advice and support where needed

  • Lead a strategic discussion on reporting and data access from OpenMRS

  • Lead development of tools for monitoring OpenMRS performance and use in the field along with a dashboard overview
