OMRS20 Group Photo planning

We have a tradition of getting a group photo at every OpenMRS Implementers Conference and we aren't going to let 2020 stop us from doing the same for OMRS20!

Background

For our group photo at the 2009 Implementers Conference, we all donned colored t-shirts and formed a human OpenMRS logo:

In the spirit of 2020 and embracing the year of virtual conferencing, we'd like to try this again; however, this year we will do it using Zoom backgrounds. We're aiming to create something close to this for our group photo:

To accomplish this, we will need 18 people using each of the four color backgrounds and everyone else using a white background. Here's how it will work...

Our Plan

  1. We will put 18 people in each of four break-out rooms (purple, orange, green, and yellow). Everyone else will stay in the main "white" room.

  2. Everyone will share their video and set their background to their room's assigned color:

    1. White room will use https://om.rs/20-white

    2. Purple room will use https://om.rs/20-purple

    3. Orange room will use https://om.rs/20-orange

    4. Green room will use https://om.rs/20-green

    5. Yellow room will use https://om.rs/20-yellow

  3. A facilitator in each room will capture screen shots in Zooms gallery mode (as many as necessary) to ensure we have at least two views of everyone (1) smiling and (2) in "jazz hands" pose – see the 2009 group photo above for an example of "jazz hands".

We'll assemble the images into one giant grid (like seen above) full of happy OMRS20 attendees with backgrounds arranged into the OpenMRS logo.

If you are using a phone or tablet, you will need to download your room's color background into your devices photos before you can set it as a background. Also, be sure to turn your device into landscape mode to avoid VVS.

What you can do to help prepare

Install the white background image and try it out:

  1. Download the white background from https://om.rs/20-white

  2. Install the downloaded file as your virtual background in Zoom.

    • If you haven't set a virtual background in Zoom before, click here for the instructions. Simply put, you open your settings/preferences in the Zoom client, navigate to Backgrounds & Filter, and click the plus (+) symbol to add your background image.
