Technical Writing Working Plan – OpenMRS Fellowship 2025

As the 2025 Technical Writing Fellow, I’ll be supporting OpenMRS across various documentation and content efforts. Below is a breakdown of the areas I’ll focus on:

1. Website Content Development

Timeline: Ongoing (Over 4 months)
Goal: Enrich the new OpenMRS website with up-to-date, user-friendly content.

  • Add and revise content across pages once the Webflow site is fully handed over.

  • Collaborate with @beryl to identify which pages need updates.

  • Review the structure and copy for clarity, consistency, and accessibility.

  • Preview the new website

2. Success Stories

Timeline: Ongoing (One article every two weeks)
Goal: Highlight impactful work and use cases from the OpenMRS community.

  • Write and publish success stories listed here

  • Interview community members and stakeholders to gather firsthand insights.

  • Ensure each story is well-researched, engaging, and accessible to a broader audience.

  • Coordinate with the web team to upload stories to the website.

Initial Priority Stories:

OpenMRS Cloud Hosting, Clustering, and Horizontal Scaling
Launch of the OpenMRS Online Academy (Virtual Courses)
OMOP Integration Work

3. Docuthon Planning and Support

Timeline: 1 Month (May/June)
Goal: Support the planning and content development for the upcoming OpenMRS Docuthon.

  • Collaborate with @beryl and @Grace Potma to organize the event structure.

  • Assist @Grace Potma in compiling a list of documentation areas to focus on.

  • Write up a comprehensive docuthon brief: event goals, documentation tasks, and participant guide.

  • Ensure all materials have a clear, welcoming technical writing style.

4. Wiki Review and Improvements

Timeline: Ongoing
Goal: TBD
