2025 Community Management Fellowship - Working Plan

The Community Management Fellowship is one of the tracks in the OpenMRS Fellowship Program, focused on community engagement, coordination, outreach, and operational support under the guidance of the Community Coordinator @beryl.

Over our fellowship period, we shall be having weekly planning and catch-up calls on Mondays and through the week, to plan,share updates and review progress.

Below is our proposed work plan for the Community Management Fellowship for 2025.

1. Website

Timeline: Ongoing over the 4 months

  • Add and curate community-focused content to the New OpenMRS website once it is handed over.

  • Beryl will share the list of pages to be revised.

  • Verify that community resources, events and programs are well featured.

2. OpenMRS Conference 2025

Timeline: Ongoing over the 4 months

  • Collaborate on designing the events wiki/website page.

  • Liaise with corporate event planners in Uganda on logistics (venue bookings, flights, accommodations, photography, transport).

  • Help design branded conference materials (swag, banners, signage, t-shirts, stickers, gifts etc) in partnership with vendors.

  • Oversee vendor coordination on the ground in Uganda to ensure timely & quality delivery.

3. Docuthon Planning

Timeline: 1 month in May/June

  • Collaborate with Beryl and Grace to plan a docuthon, define goals and deliverables.

  • Work with Grace to compile a prioritized list of doc topics and areas needing coverage.

  • Promote the docuthon via posts/social-media and set up the sessions for the participants.

4. Community Engagement

Timeline: Ongoing over the 4 months

  • Update the archived OpenMRS community help page.

  • Promote upcoming events, programs, and resources across Talk & social media.

  • Co-host the community catch-up calls.

  • Support coordination of Google Summer of Code (GSoC) calls.

  • Implement and automate a tailored Discourse welcome message for new community members.

  • Improve on social media presence and engagement metrics.

5. Documentation Updates

Timeline: Ongoing over the 4 months

  • Audit existing community-related documentation to identify outdated or missing content.

  • Draft and publish module-specific documentation: Ward App, Billing...

  • Collaborate on enhancing onboarding guides for new community contributors.

6. Implementation Survey

Timeline: Ongoing over the 4 months

  • Carry out the OpenMRS community implementation survey using KoBoToolbox.

  • Gather and analyze community feedback to inform future community activities and resource development.

  • Share survey findings to community community for transparency and feedback.
