Senior OCL/OMRS Fellow

Open Concept Lab (OCL) and the Columbia International eHealth Lab (CIEL) via OpenMRS is interested in working with a Fellow to improve access to the CIEL terminology via OCL.  If this piques your interest, you are in the right place; read on:

Role Overview

The Fellow will help maintain and release clinical interface terminology for CIEL.  The Fellow will be an essential bridge between physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and possibly other allied health professionals and the CIEL terminology including mappings and modeling to ICD-10/11, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, FHIR and other appropriate standards that are use case dependent. The Fellow must be able to maintain semantic infrastructure around the CIEL terminology including metadata and should be proficient in ontology standards, using terminology tools and will should have expertise in clinical terminology management. The Fellow will be working closely with the director of CIEL, Dr. Andrew Kanter.

  • Length: 9 months with opportunity to extend

  • FT/PT: Full-Time although Part-Time will be considered

  • Location: Remote (Global)

Responsibilities

  • Monitor terminology and code system changes that impact the CIEL terminology.

  • Manage community requirements and requests for changes to the CIEL terminology.

  • Make any necessary updates to the CIEL terminology.

  • Assist with the monthly release of the CIEL terminology

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a clinical degree (medical doctor, nurse, pharmacist, etc.) and 3-5 years of relevant experience working with medical terminology (SNOMED, LOINC, etc.) or FHIR terminology services.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in biomedical informatics, linguistics, or computer science is a plus.

Additional Qualifications

  • Must have experience working with standardized terminologies, tooling for mapping of codesets, basic SQL experience (running queries, performing database updates, etc.).

  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated and require minimal direction.

  • Must possess the ability to manage multiple, parallel activities and organize time and resources is a must. 

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are required. Medical language proficiency in French or Spanish is a plus.

Compensation

Rates commensurate with experience and location the person is based. Location is determined by the country where the person is residing at the start of the contract.
