Configuring OpenMRS Standalone

When you install the OpenMRS Standalone, you are given a choice between three configurations. If you are uncertain which configuration to use, we will try to provide some more information here to help you decide.

Explorer Mode

Includes:

  • Core data
  • The MVP/CIEL concept dictionary
  • Sample patient data 
  • Examples of various metadata

Example users:

  • Someone new to OpenMRS, interested in playing with a copy of the system on their own machine beyond demo.openmrs.org
  • A developer who wants to install a test system in order to demonstrate or evaluate her new module
  • An implementer interested in exercising some new or changed features within OpenMRS on their own machine without affecting their production and/or staging environments
  • Someone working on a project that interacts or integrates with OpenMRS and wants a sample instance of OpenMRS against which to work
Implementer Mode

Includes:

  • Core data
  • The MVP/CIEL concept dictionary

Potential users:

  • Someone setting up a new implementation of OpenMRS and doesn't want to start their concept dictionary completely from scratch
Expert Mode

Includes:

  • Core data

Potential users:

  • Someone who probably doesn't need to look at this web page, because he or she has been working with OpenMRS for a while and knows exactly what he/she needs. (smile)
