OpenMRS Technical Workshop outline October 26th and 27th

Overview

This workshop will bring together key collaborators working on the OpenMRS medical information system for supporting healthcare in developing countries. The initial focus is on the roll out of HIV treatment in Africa and Haiti but the initial implementation will support TB treatment and later version will expand to function as a general EMR system. The design is intended to address the limitations of existing EMR architectures for deployment in resource limited environments including the need for low costs and sustainability, flexibility in configuring the system for new sites and circumstances and the need for internationalization and multiple language support.

The overall approach we are taking is the development of a data model that allows all medical data to be coded in a data dictionary and stored in a data and time stamped observation table. The system will be 100% open source (though it may also run on Windows and some implementations will will voluntarily include proprietary software). The design will be modular to facilitate collaboration on different components and simplify interfacing to other systems or supporting software including lab and pharmacy systems and national statistics reporting systems such as TRACnet in Rwanda.

Location

The workshop will be held in a small conference room in the Hilton, C326 starting at 1.30pm. This is on the same level as the reception desk, beyond the breakfast/restaurant area and up a corridor.

WEDNESDAY (10/26)
