Find Patient Record

The first search box on the screen will let you find and select a patient in the system.  After searching for a patient, you can click on his or her row to look at the patient’s dashboard; it contains detailed patient information, including looking at records of clinical visits, demographic information, graphs and medical forms. Some example patient names that you can search for are:

  • John

  • Smith

  • Mary

To fill out a vitals encounter form on a patient, click on the “Start Visit” action on the right to start a new visit, then click the “Capture Vitals” action on the right.”

Steps

  1. Search icon

    1. Click on the search icon to open the search box so that we can search for a patient.

  2. Search box

    1. Now, enter the name of the patient here. If you know the patient ID, you can use that as well. You will see the results if the patient you entered exists in the system. Some example patient names that you can search for are: John, Smith, Mary.

  3. Search results

    1. You may see the patient you want to find here in the quick results. If you click on a patient, you will be redirected to the specific patient’s patient chart view.

  4. Search button

    1. Usually, if there are a lot of patients in the system, you may need additional fields to search other than the name. Also, the patient you are looking for may not be displayed in the top results if there are multiple patients with the same name. In these scenarios, you can click here to open the advanced search.

  5. Filters section

    1. You can refine your search by applying filters such as date of birth, age, sex, and phone number here.

  6. Search results (disable click)

    1. Here you can see all the patients who match the search criteria. Clicking on a patient will open the patient’s patient chart.

  7. Close button

    1. That’s the end of the tutorial. Click on the close button to go back to the home page.

 

Start Visit:

  1. search icon

    1. To fill out any forms or encounters of a patient, you have to start a visit. To start a patient visit, first you need to go to the patient chart view of the respective patient. Click on the search icon to open the search box so that we can search for the patient.

    1. Now, enter the name or the ID of the patient here. Some example patient names that you can search for are: John, Smith, Mary

    1. Click on the patient whose chart you want to access. Make sure to select a patient without the "Active visit" label, as we will start a visit in the next steps of the tutorial.

    1. Welcome to the patient chart view! Here, you can find detailed patient information, records of clinical visits, demographic information, graphs, and medical forms. Click on the "Start Visit" button to open the Start Visit form.

    1. Fill out the necessary information here and click on the "Start Visit" button at the bottom of this form to start the visit. You can click on "Discard" if you don't want to start a visit at the moment.

    1. That's the end of this tutorial! If you have already started a visit, you will see an "Active Visit" tag near the patient's name here. After the visit is started, you can do things like capturing vitals, biometrics, and more through this patient chart view.

 

Patient Chart

    1. Patient chart is the main point of interaction between healthcare professionals and patient data, where you can manage everything related to a single patient. To access the patient chart, first, you need to select a patient. To start, click here to open the search box so that we can search for a patient.

    1. Now, enter the name or the ID of the patient here. Some example patient names that you can search for are: John, Smith, Mary.

    1. Click on the patient you want to go to their patient chart.

  4. Patient chart

    1. Welcome to the Patient Chart View! Here, you can quickly see everything about your patient's health history, visits, medications, allergies, and test results—all in one place. It's designed to help you provide the best care efficiently

  5. Patient header

    1. The patient header contains all the key information you need to identify the patient you are currently viewing. You can click on the "Show Details" button to see additional patient information.

  6. Left panel

    1. The left panel shows the sections of the patient chart. Currently, we are on the patient summary page.

  7. Patient summary widgets

    1. Patient Summary is a personalized view made up of widgets that show essential features and information for quick access.

  8. Siderail

    1. The siderail contains a series of links that take users to different tabs in the Workspace, such as the order basket, visit notes, and clinical forms. Once open, the Workspace is persistent across pages (for example, all pages within the patient chart).

    1. Great job! You've completed the tutorial. To return to the home page, click the close button in the top right corner.

Register a patient

This application will allow you to create a new patient in the system.  The form is designed to support keyboard navigation as easily as using the mouse.  If you start defining a new patient similar to an existing patient, you will see an alert notifying you that a similar patient already exists in the system.

Capture Vitals

Steps

  1. Search Icon

    1. To capture the vitals of a patient, you need to start by going to the patient chart view of the respective patient. Click on the search icon to open the search box so that you can search for the patient.

  2. Search Box

    1. Now, enter the name or the ID of the patient here. Some example patient names you can search for are: John, Smith, Mary.

  3. Search Results

    1. Click on the patient to go to their patient chart.

  4. Record Vitals Button

    1. Welcome to the patient chart view! Click on the "Record Vitals" button to open the vitals form. If the selected patient doesn't have an active visit, you will be prompted to start one. In that case, submit the start visit form in order to proceed to the next step.

  5. Vitals Form

    1. In this form, you can enter the vitals and biometrics you have captured. If any value entered is out of the normal range, you will see ↑ (High), ↓ (Low), ↑↑ (Very High) or ↓↓ (Very Low) indicators next to the respective field. After entering all necessary details, click on the "Save and Close" button to submit the data.

  6. Vitals Header

    1. The latest vitals and biometrics data of the patient can be viewed in this section.

  7. Vitals and Biometrics Menu

    1. Click here to go to the Vitals and Biometrics page, where you can view the past records of vitals and biometrics.

  8. Vitals/Biometrics Tables

    1. These tables display the history of vitals and biometrics. Indicators may be present here to show measurements that are higher or lower than the typical range.

    1. You can click on the "Chart" button for a graphical representation of the vitals history.

    1. You have now successfully completed the tutorial. You can continue with the rest of the patient visit by recording additional information or performing other necessary actions within the patient chart view, or you can return to the homepage.

Advanced Administration > Dictionary

OpenMRS is built around an extensible concept framework. Simply put, this means that all patient readings, facts and observations are stored in a database, editable by the implementer, and not hard-coded into the database schema. You can use the dictionary interface to either look at the pre-installed concept definitions, or you can use it to write your own. If you’d like to search for concepts, some  examples are:

  • BLOOD PRESSURE

  • HYPERTENSION

  • VISIT DIAGNOSES

The Advanced Administration app  provides direct links to all of the features accessible through the other tabs, as well as database and system management interfaces. The best way to learn about these features is to try them out. Remember, this is a demo, reset hourly – feel free to try everything!

Patient Lists

Step 1:

  • Target: Patient Lists menu item

    Creating a patient list is a great way to keep a group of patients organized for easier management. Click here to go to the patient lists view.

    Click here to see all the patient lists we have in the system.

    Now, let's try creating a new list. Click here to open the new patient list form.

    Enter the necessary details and click on "Create List" to create the list.

    Great! We have successfully created a new patient list. Find and click on the patient list you created to proceed. You can use the search option at the top right if needed.

    You can see the patient list is empty since we haven't added any patients to the list yet.

    To add a patient to the list, we have to go to the respective patient’s chart view. Click here to open the search box so that we can search for a patient.

    Click on the patient to go to the patient chart, where we can add the patient to our newly created list.

    Click on "Action" and select "Add to List" from the drop-down menu.

    You can see the list of patient lists here. Search for our newly created patient list using the filter, and mark the checkbox beside the patient list name. You can add the patient to multiple lists at once by selecting multiple checkboxes.

1) Active Visits

1.1 This section shows the time period when a person is actively interacting with the health care system.

1.2 You can see the encounters for the specific patient.

1.3 This specifies the visit summary of the particular patient.

 

2) Patient-list (Patient list can be accessed from home page & also from the workspace)

2.1 : This section shows the list of patients in the system.

 

 

3) Appointments

3.1 This section creates an appointment schedule when providers are available to see patients.

3.1.1 : Search for a patient by name or identifier number

3.2 Here you can see the list of expected appointments.

3.3 You can just check in patient, so they move onto active lists.

 

4) Laboratory

4.1 This section shows the list of test ordered for all the patients.

4.2 You can pickup or reject the lab request.

 

5) Patient-registration

5.1 This is the Demographics section. Here you can find various fields and information related to the patient.

5.2 Here you can update the patient's contact information.

5.3 In this section, you can manage the patient's relationships.

 

 

OCL Module:

Step 1:

  • Target: App menu icon

  • Content: OpenMRS Open Concept Lab (OCL) module allows you to subscribe to an OCL dictionary for easier concept management. To go to the OCL module, click on the app menu here and select System Administration.

Step 2:

  • Target: OCL module card

  • Content: Now click on the OpenConcept Lab module card.

Step 3:

  • Target: Subscription section

  • Content: The OCL module has 3 main sections. The Subscription section allows you to set up an OCL subscription. Each OCL collection comes with a unique URL, which is the subscription URL.

Step 4:

  • Target: Subscription token field

  • Content: The API token is used to access the collection if it is a private OCL collection. You can find your token on the settings page of your Open Concept Lab account.

Step 5:

  • Target: Import tab

  • Content: Now let's see how we can import the concepts using the subscription we have set up. Click on the Import tab to proceed.

Step 6:

  • Target: Import tab content

  • Content: Here you have two ways to import concepts from an OCL collection. You can click on the "Import from Subscription" button to sync the concepts using the subscription we set up. Alternatively, you can import data without setting up a subscription using the file upload option. To use this option, you need to download the OCL collection from the OCL dashboard as a zip file.

  • Content: Go to the Previous Imports tab to see the details of the previous imports.

  • Content: This is the list of previous imports. You can click on a record to see more details on it.
