Getting Started with Help

If you need help with your OpenMRS system or in your OpenMRS Community journey, follow these steps:

  1. Review existing resources - Check the content in Troubleshooting and FAQs for common issues and solutions.

  2. Search the Community Forum - Visit OpenMRS Talk and use the search bar to see if others have asked similar questions. Often, you are not alone in facing a particular challenge!

  3. Contact the Help Desk - If you are experiencing OpenMRS account challenges, such as problems using Jira or Wiki, contact the community's Help Desk.

OpenMRS ID

OpenMRS ID is an account required to participate in most community resources and support tools. This single sign-on account gives you access to the wiki, forums, Jira, and other community platforms.

Primary Support Channels

OpenMRS Talk (Community Forum)

OpenMRS Talk is the communication hub for the worldwide OpenMRS Community and the primary place for community discussions.

Most community discussion occurs within OpenMRS Talk, including:

  • Technical questions and troubleshooting

  • Implementation advice and best practices

  • Feature requests and development discussions

  • Community announcements and events

OpenMRS Wiki

The OpenMRS Wiki contains comprehensive documentation for users and developers, including:

  • User guides and tutorials

  • Developer documentation

  • Module information and resources

  • Community processes and procedures

You can search for information using the search bar or navigate through the organized sections. If you find errors in the documentation, please help improve it! After logging in with your OpenMRS ID, you'll see an Edit button on most pages.


Help Desk Support

If you have problems with your OpenMRS ID or any community tools, you can open a ticket at https://help.openmrs.org/

When to contact the Help Desk:

  • OpenMRS ID login issues

  • Problems accessing Jira, Wiki, or other community tools

  • Technical difficulties with community platforms

  • Account-related questions

Log in with your OpenMRS ID for faster service. If you cannot log in, be sure to include your name and contact information when creating the ticket.


Community Events and Calls

The OpenMRS community hosts regular events including daily Coffee Break calls focused on troubleshooting for developers, and maintains an OpenMRS calendar Events & Meetings (OpenMRS Calendar) for all community calls.

Check OpenMRS Talk for weekly announcements about upcoming community events and calls.
