Adding Concepts to a Collection

The steps below show you how to:

1. Search concepts in the CIEL dictionary

2. View concept details before adding them to a collection

3. Add concepts to the collection

4. Verify added concepts

1. Verify that the dictionary you want to add the concepts exists by clicking on the "User Collections".

2. You will notice that there are no concepts added to the collection and therefore we are starting from scratch.

3. Use the Global Search feature to find the first concept. Type "marital status" for example to search in the CIEL dictionary

4. Use the Filter to narrow down the results.

5. Check CIEL as the "Owner" then click on APPLY.

6. Only CIEL concepts are now returned.

7. Click the checkbox adjacent to the most probable concept to see the details e.g., answers, mappings, etc

Keep checking and unchecking until you get the right concept.

8. Once satisfied that the concept that you need exists, click on "Add to Collection."

9. Add the destination of your concept e.g., "Mini Demo" is where we want to add this concept.

10. Select the "OpenMRS Compatible Cascade" option to include mappings and set members.

11. Click on ADD to finish adding the concept to your dictionary.

12. Wait for the references to be added (this might take a few seconds). A message confirming the addition of the concepts and mappings will appear as shown below.

13. You can confirm if the concept has been successfully added to your collection by navigating back to your "Mini Demo" collection.

14. In recent history, select the "mini-demo".

15. Search for "marital status" within the "mini-demo" (not on the global search level)

16. Check the details of the concept by selecting the checkbox adjacent to the concept.

17. Review the details such as the answers plus the mappings. You should be able to see both the questions and answers associated with the concept that was added (if the concept is of question-answer type).

18. Back to the "Global Search", let's add our second concept →MALARIA. Type malaria on the global search level.

19. Click on Filters

20. Apply "CIEL" filter

21. Also apply "Diagnosis" filter

22. As shown in the results, the source of the concepts returned is only "CIEL" and the class is only "Diagnosis".

23. Use the checkbox next to the concepts to identify the most probable concept and check the details to confirm the right search.

24. Once, you are satisfied, click on "Add to Collection".

25. Select the destination (Mini Demo).

26. Apply OpenMRS-compatible cascade

27. Then click on ADD.

28. Once the concepts and mappings are added you will see a message like the one shown below. Click on CLOSE to close the message.

29. To add another concept (routine blood panel), again we use the global search and then apply the filters (as per the previous examples).

30. The results returned are based on 2 filters (CIEL Source and Labset Class)

31. The details of the concept we want and associated mappings are as shown.

• SAME-AS∞: Indicates a mapping relationship in which the concept is considered identical or synonymous to the concept specified.

• CONCEPT-SET: Refers to a specific collection of related concepts grouped for organizational purposes. Concept sets are often used to group similar medical terms or conditions for easier management and reference.

• NARROWER-THAN: This mapping means that the concept is more specific than the referenced concept.

• SAME-AS: A standard mapping relationship that identifies the concept as exactly equivalent to another concept in a different dictionary or terminology set.

32. Click "Add to Collection" once satisfied that this is the correct concept you are looking for.

33. Select the destination (in this case, Mini Demo).

34. Apply OpenMRS-compatible cascade.

35. Then Click on ADD to finish the addition.

36. The results show what has been added → both concepts and mappings. Click CLOSE after checking/confirming the message.

37. Let's now go back to our mini-demo dictionary.

38. Click the "Concepts" tab to see the concepts that have been added to the dictionary.

39. Click the "Mappings" tab to view the mappings for these existing concepts.

40. Click on the "References" tab to see the various references for our concepts.

41. Click on the "Versions and Expansions" tab to view the versions.

Currently, we have not created a version yet - the "head version" or current workspace contains all the latest work such as the edits or additions to the dictionary or collection.

42. Click on the "Summary" tab to see summary of what is in the Mini Demo Collection.

43. You may want to drill down further on the summary for example → to understand the breakdown of 6 concept classes that the concepts in our dictionary belong to.
