  • First off, Happy New Year to you all.
  • The OSI was contacted by the Open Education Consortium (http://www.oeconsortium.org/) to participate in their "Year of Open" campgain (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXXaHBV5Hhg) which celebrates a variety of open initiatives impacting education--including open source software.
  • As part of the celebration, the OEConsortium is dedicating each month of the year to a particular open community of practice. They have decided to dedicate this February (yes, 17 days from now) to open source software, and asked if I can reach out to the open source software community for their thoughts around a few general questions related to open source software and communities.
  • I think this is a good opportunity: it will provide an great opportunity to introduce--or extend--your own projects to another audience (higher education), it will highlight the role of open source software--and particularly the OSD--as the foundation for other open initiatives, and for the OSI , it will promote our own upcoming 20th anniversary which will be next year, Feb 3rd, 2018.
  • I do hope you are interested. If so, can you please respond to the below four questions--and I apologize for the shire notice, but we need them by Jan 27th. You should feel free to highlight how your project aligns with education, educational institutions, etc. Also please send along a photo and logo from the project that they can use to accompany your responses.
  • 1. What is Open Source Software?

  • 3. What changes do you hope it will bring (for your country/region)?
  • 4. What is the future of Open Source Software?
  • The OEConsortium will document all of the responses as an artifact attached to the website, and also create a shorter promotional piece with smaller quotes.
